Miletich received the award for his leadership of the volunteer group and his efforts during the Valley Fire. He did not allow the destruction of the houses of 10 neighbors and personally accompanied two elderly neighbors a few minutes before the fire.

The Air Force Department announced four Vanguard programs: Golden Horde, Navigation Technology Satellite 3 (NTS-3), Skyborg and Rocket Cargo. Vanguards will develop new weapons systems and combat concepts through prototyping and testing, as outlined in the Air Force's Science and Technology Strategy 2030.
